This is made from an approx 15 oz water repellent and rotproof waxed cotton canvas, often used in outdoor activities. It is a robust material; slubs, slight tonal variation at selvedge are all very much part of it’s character and are not strictly faults; we like to think of it as treasured flaws.
Please note although all our leather and waxed canvas have a protective finish, lighter shades will naturally mark more easily.
Dry cleaning is not recommended, nor washing in the washing machine as it will deplete the wax in the weave. A solution of baking soda and water in a bowl with a wet sponge often does the trick on most marks, followed by a quick hose down with the shower head to wash off the soda or it’ll leave a powdery white patch. Or a diluted solution of soapy water and sponge over the mark if it’s not obvious. If it got soaking wet through prolonged contact with rain, pad it out with an old towel or sheets so the bag retains it’s shape as it dries and absorbing some moisture at the same time, then leave it to dry in a cool airy environment, away from direct sunlight.
Every hide is individual and unique and we buy the best we can get hold of. However, tonal and slight thickness variations, scar marks are inherent features of the leather and are unique to the life of the beast. The leathers will age naturally and change in colour with time and use, akin to a treasured piece of clothing. Similarly, an occasional application of wax or leather conditioner will help lengthen the life of the bag, like a leather pair a shoes. If it gets wet, dab with a soft neutral cloth to absorb the moisture and take care to avoid over-exposure to heat or direct sunlight. Store in a cool dry place when not in use. Please note that some residual colour remains in the dyeing process, as in some indigo dyed denim, and may rub off on light coloured garments and vice versa, we recommend to please take care.
Other than the above, we think this company, although it specialises in leather upholstery and car interiors, would also be useful
